Aging Gracefully Challenge - Day 25 - Characteristics of Wisdom (Part 1)

The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old. Proverbs 20:29.

What are the characteristics of Wisdom:

Wisdom is humble. Humility is mentioned more than any other quality in Proverbs. Yesterday we saw that wisdom takes the correct attitude toward God, fears Him and regards Him as supreme.  Today we see that wisdom also takes the correct attitude toward both God people.

Proverbs 11:2 AMPC – When swelling and pride come, then emptiness and shame come also, but with the humble (those who are lowly, who have been pruned or chiseled by trial, and renounce self) are skillful and godly Wisdom and soundness.

Proverbs 14:3 – In the fool’s own mouth is a rod [to shame] his pride, but the wise men’s lips preserve them.

Proverbs 25:27 – … so for men to seek glory, their own glory, causes suffering and is not glory.

Wisdom speaks the truth boldly. The commentator, Matthew Henry writes “Truth seeks not corners, nor is virtue ashamed of itself.”

Proverbs 10:20 – The tongue of the righteous is choice silver;

Proverbs 15:23 –  A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!

Proverbs 18:4 – The words of a [discreet and wise] man’s mouth are like deep waters [plenteous and difficult to fathom], and the fountain of skillful and godly Wisdom is like a gushing stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and life-giving].

Wisdom is self-disciplined and disciplines her children.

Proverbs 1:4  That prudence may be given to the simple,  knowledge and discretion to the youth

Proverbs 21:23 – They guard their mouths and keep themselves from trouble.

Proverbs 19:18 – Discipline your son while there is hope

Wisdom works hard.

Proverbs 10:4 – He becomes poor who works with a slack and idle hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

Proverbs 13:11 AMPC - Wealth [not earned but] won in haste or unjustly or from the production of things for vain or detrimental use [such riches] will dwindle away, but he who gathers little by little will increase [his riches].

Proverbs 22:29 – Do you see a man diligent and skillful in his business? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

Day 25 Challenge – Choose an area listed above and ask God specifically for wisdom in that area.
