Aging Gracefully Challenge - Day 5 - Let’s Stay Strong!

Yesterday we looked at the life of Moses as he began to fulfill his lifelong dream. Today as we begin to fulfill our lifelong dreams, we will look at Caleb. Caleb needed supernatural strength to complete his dream and we probably will too.

Here is the condensed story of Caleb. He originally spied out the “Promise Land” and, along with Joshua, believed that based on God’s promise, they could conquer it.  But the other Israelites did not believe, so they had to wonder in the wilderness 40 years until the unbelieving generation died (please note, unbelief must die before you can enter the Promise Land.)

As they were taking the Promise Land, Caleb requested certain land in the hill country of Hebron. There were enemies in the land that Caleb would need to conquer.  I paraphrase, but essentially Caleb said “I’m as strong at 85 as I was at 45. GIVE ME THE MOUNTAIN that God has for me” Joshua 4:10 – 12

That was a verse for my mom as she completed her PhD at age 75. She needed supernatural strength. She was working full time at her music studio and going to school. She needed a good memory and great stamina. God provided supernatural strength. She needed to believe that God was with her as she fulfilled His plans for her and He was with her every step of the way.

You may think, I may think, “Oh I had this dream but it’s really difficult and will take a lot of work, so I don’t know, I’m slowing down a bit, I’m tired, I don’t think I can do this, etc.” Be careful of those thoughts. They can keep you in the wilderness. Believe the way Caleb believed – that with God’s strength you can accomplish what He has for you.

Day 5 Task – IN GOD’S STRENGTH, TAKE YOUR MOUNTAIN – Today’s challenge is to think as Caleb thought and to have the same confidence in God. “I’m as strong at (whatever your age) as I was (your age minus 40). Give me my mountain!  And then, day by day, starting today, conquer your God-given Mountain. In Christ's strength you can do it! You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. Philippians 4:13
