Aging Gracefully Challenge - Day 9 - Fasting Fear

Yesterday we looked at fasting negative thoughts. fear, failure, disappointment, trouble; any thought of criticism, spite, jealousy, condemnation of others, or self-condemnation.

For the next few days, we are going to focus on fasting thoughts that are the most damaging to us. We will also look at nutrients and foods that can nourish and positively impact our mental state and our brain.

OUR MENTAL DIET – FAST FEARFUL THOUGHTS Fearful thoughts are extremely damaging to our health because they have a negative impact spiritually, mentally, and physically.

How fear impacts us spiritually: Fear is the opposite of faith. Faith opens a passage from the spiritual realm where God has decreed His will for us to the physical realm, where we need His will to manifest. (Mt 9:29 - According to your faith it will be done to you”). Unfortunately, fear opens a passage for the enemy to work. (For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me… Job 3:25)

How fear impacts us mentally: Fear causes worry, anxiety, and depression. Over and over in the Bible, God tells us “Do not be afraid”. He tells us that He has not given us a Spirit of Fear. 2 Tim 2:7. If it didn’t come from God, guess who it came from. Right, the enemy. If you feel spiritually oppressed, you might need deliverance prayers. DM me if that is the case.

How fear impacts us physically: Fear can cause a “Fight or Flight” response that releases cortisol into our bodies. If cortisol is present on a long-term basis, it can destroy our immune system.

To combat fearful thoughts:  Meditate on God’s Word. God’s word will change us. We have Affirmation Cards against Fear which you can purchase or can be downloaded at no charge. See the links below. You can also look up verses on the internet. Just get God’s Word.

You might consider not watching the news. Be aware that the media presents the worst as if it is the norm. Whatever happens, God’s got this. If you fear God, you don’t need to fear anything else. Not even death.

Nutrients that can reduce anxiety and fear: There is a connection between mood disorders and a lack of B vitamins. My favorite natural source of B vitamins is Nutritional Yeast. Also, you want a healthy gut so take a good probiotic and consume fermented foods. Your gut microbes also make eurotransmitters, like dopamine, and serotonin. Serotonin can greatly affect your mood.

Day 9 Challenge – No Negative Thoughts: Especially fearful thoughts!. Best of all, think of God and how you can trust Him. Memorize the verse “I prayed to the LORD, and He answered me, freeing me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4

Get good nutrients: 1) Eat two tablespoons of nutritional yeast. 2) Eat one cup of fermented foods- Sauerkraut (Trader Joe’s), kimchee (Trader Joe’s), kefir (Whole Foods), Cocoyo (Whole Foods)
