We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 1 Corinthians 4:8,9

SYBOLISM IN THE PAINTING - This artwork attempts to offer a visual reflection of the profound essence of this beautiful, enlightening verse. Life often presents us with myriad challenges—trials, natural calamities, conflicts with others, hunger, thirst, physical afflictions, societal rejection, and misunderstandings—all of which echo the experiences of the verse's author, the Apostle Paul.

Yet, within the verse and illustrated in the painting lies a source of supernatural strength available to us. Despite the pressure of the encroaching darkness, the Light of the World stands steadfast, supporting, uplifting, and fortifying us. Through hardships, we are strengthened by God's boundless love.

In a later passage within the same chapter, Paul tells us to fix our gaze upon Christ and reveals the purpose behind our trials—they are shaping us for an 'eternal weight of glory.' He reminds us that our momentary afflictions are crafting for us an everlasting reward that far surpasses anything earthly, urging us to focus not on the visible, which is temporal,  but on the eternal.

Can there be any doubt that Paul's profound suffering paralleled his extraordinary productivity? He penned nearly half of the New Testament and played a pivotal role in establishing the early Church.

May it be true of our sufferings, also. May they strengthen us, encourage those around us and ultimately advance the kingdom of Christ, our King.
